Wilkes-Barre and King’s College

In the heart of Pennsylvania’s Wyoming Valley, Wilkes-Barre offers a blend of beauty and historic character. Found within the Appalachian Plateaus and framed by the Pocono Mountains and the Susquehanna River, the town is a picturesque backdrop.

At its center stands King’s College, a historic urban campus with ivy-covered buildings and a warm, collegiate spirit that adds vibrancy to the community. Founded in 1946 by the Congregation of Holy Cross (a Catholic clerical religious congregation), King’s College provided a Catholic liberal arts education to the sons of coal miners and returning veterans in Wilkes-Barre, PA. It was founded by Rev. James Connerton, who arrived in the city with little, and helped launch the college from humble beginnings. Today, King’s has grown to be a vibrant institution serving almost 2,000 students and offering over 60 academic programs. The college still emphasizes the liberal arts while expanding into professional and interdisciplinary fields, preparing students for careers in healthcare, education, science, and beyond. King’s College also maintains a special mission of educating first-generation students and serving the community in the Catholic tradition.
