Great Barrington

Downtown Great Barrington is a walkable shopping and art district that blends small-town warmth with urban sophistication. Centered around Main Street and Railroad Street, the shopping and gallery district offers independent artisan shops, art galleries, restaurants, coffee shops and specialty stores nestled in historic architecture.

Main Street in Great Barrington, MA

Main Street

Main Street is lined with a mix of boutiques, bookstores, restaurants, cafes, and some of Great Barrington’s essential stores and services. Notable spots include Barrington Outfitters, the Berkshire Food Co-op, Fuel Coffee, Yellow House Books and Rubiner’s Cheesemongers. The street features historic architecture and a lively pedestrian atmosphere.

Railroad Street in Great Barrington, MA

Railroad Street

If Main Street is the town’s heartbeat, Railroad Street is its soul—and my personal favorite. This cool street not only hosts a few of my new favorite haunts, but it has an interesting history.
Once a vital artery for the railroad that shaped Great Barrington’s early growth, the street fell into decline before roaring back to life in the late 1990s. Today, it’s a symbol of the town’s creative renaissance. The street is home to galleries and artist-operated shops like the Railroad Street Collective, cool places to eat like SoCo Creamery, and boutique shopping experiences like Artemsia. With its mix of history, artistry, and cool local haunts, Railroad Street feels like a secret you’re lucky to stumble upon.

Fun fact – Railroad St. is unusual in the way the street turns at a near 90 degree angle, visible in the photos above.

Bridge St. in Great Barrington

Bridge Street

Bridge Street in Great Barrington offers a quieter, curated shopping experience. It’s home to a few standout destinations like the Berkshire Food Co-Op, a community-owned store offering fresh, local, and organic goods. It’s a prime destination for the health conscious staple shopper, but is also a great place to stop for a quick bite and has a café and hot bar within. Also on Bridge Street you will find Hammertown, a curated home decor and goods store with a focus on furniture, vintage items and unique gifts. If the name sounds familiar, it’s the same Hammertown you’ll find in Rhinebeck, NY—though this location has a distinctly Berkshire vibe.
