From nanotech breakthroughs to AI startups, SUNY Poly’s campus is a launchpad for tomorrow’s tech. The campus features, modern cutting-edge labs, clean rooms, industry partnerships, and a faculty comprised of bold thinkers.

SUNY Polytechnic Institute has evolved significantly since its founding. Originally founded in 1966 as the Upper Division College at Herkimer/Rome/Utica, the institution began by offering graduate programs in temporary classrooms. During the 1970s and early 1980s, it operated out of a former mill in West Utica.

The campus eventually moved permanently to Marcy, NY in the 1980s when construction was completed on a new 200+ acre campus. After relocating, in 1989, the institution was renamed SUNY Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) at Utica-Rome due to its expanded academic mission. In 2014 SUNYIT merged with the SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) in Albany, forming SUNY Polytechnic Institute.

While CNSE was transferred back to the University at Albany, SUNY Poly remains home to four colleges: Arts & Sciences, Business, Engineering, and Health Sciences. Currently, SUNY Poly serves over 3,000 students from across New York State, the U.S., and over 20 countries.
